Gardening is such a wonderful activity. Perfect for contemplation and soul searching. A quiet morning, pulling weeds and nipping blossoms while my dogs hunt for… not sure errant mulch or spiders maybe… is so peaceful. It totally rejuvenates me for the week.
It’s also solitary. It’s more like yoga with all the bending, balancing and finding your center. There’s not a lot of chit-chat and sharing while you’re deciding if the daylilies need splitting or I should just give up and dig up the dying hydrangea. Sometimes you just need a fellow garden zealot to run ideas past.
For others in a similar situation let me recommend Dave’s Garden. You can lurk for free, or get oh-so much more by joining (it’s really inexpensive). You can pick your favorite discussion group by plant type – roses, begonias or coneflowers. Or you can join a group by your interest – beginner, vegetables or bees. My favorite is by region. I highly recommend the Upper Midwest group. Full of great ideas, recommendations and when necessary, commiseration.
